If you are new to the Matter of Focus approach, you may want to start by learning more about the approach and how it works, before diving into this guide to OutNav. A great place to start is by reading some of the Insight posts on our website. Try this six-part series:
- An overview of the Matter of Focus approach
- Understand the outcomes and impacts that matter
- Understand the unique context of your work
- Get the data and evidence you need to track your progress
- Track and visualise the difference you make
- Report in an outcome-focused way
When you feel you understand the approach, working through the articles listed below will show you everything you need to know to begin working in OutNav and telling the story of the impact your organisation makes!
Getting set up
It may be that your OutNav project has already been set up by other members of your organisation or by the Matter of Focus team. If this is the case, you can skip to the Project Overview section below.
However, if your organisation is not yet set up on OutNav and you are the Organisation Administrator, you may want to read our articles on the Dashboard and the various organisation settings, including adding users to your OutNav organisation and adding an organisation logo.
Project Overview
When editing a project in OutNav (by clicking its name from the Dashboard), the first page you will see is the Project Overview. The articles below will help you understand how it works and what it allows you to do.
Find out more about the Project Overview, including the information you can view from this page and how it allows you to access the other sections of OutNav.
Adding or editing your project settings
If you are a Project Administrator, this article will show you how to change your project settings.
Mapping
Mapping is the process of creating stepping stones and pathways that show the process of how your organisation intends to make a difference.
Take the first step in creating an outcome map, or make changes to an existing one, by adding and editing stepping stones.
Begin telling your organisation's story by plotting out pathways that link the work you do to the outcomes that matter.
Tracking
Tracking involves digging into your evidence and analysing the progress your organisation has made and is making towards its goals.
Get an overview of your organisation's progress towards its goals, and begin your analysis.
Analyse and rate your organisation's progress within specific stepping stones.
Create a summary analysis of all the stepping stones within each column.
Manage the sources, success criteria and evidence attached to your stepping stones.
Reporting
Reporting allows you to present your organisation's work in an accessible and shareable way.
Generate customised reports to show your organisation's progress towards outcomes.
Share or download a report
Share your generated reports with your team or with people not on OutNav:
- Sharing a live report within OutNav
- Sharing a live report beyond OutNav
- Download a report to Microsoft Word
